The Veryl G Blakely Memorial Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to support military veterans or non-traditional students entering a medically oriented field of study (EMT, Paramedic, Nurse, Physical Therapy, etc.). Financial need will also be reviewed and will be determined through your FAFSA or Dream Act Application.
Veryl Blakely was born and raised in Pennsylvania and Michigan. He joined the US Navy out of high school and served honorably in the Pacific for four years as a US Navy Corpsman. He was discharged in San Diego and decided to settle there. He attended Southwestern College and received two degrees. In 1999 he received a Certificate of Achievement EMT and an Associate of Science Degree in EMT with Honors and in 2009 he received an Associate of Art in Music with Honors. Veryl was a licensed Paramedic in the State of California and worked as a Paramedic in San Diego for 18 years. He was an avid reader and bicyclist, riding cross country many times. He loved music and was an exceptional guitarist.
